The gums surround the neck of the tooth and cover the area in which the teeth enter the jawbone.
The gums belong to the oral mucosa and are an important part of the periodontium. Just like teeth, gums need to be cleaned regularly to prevent diseases. Gum inflammation (gingivitis) and bleeding gums can be very unpleasant, but can be prevented by good oral hygiene.
